Proposals to abolish the Sheltered Housing Warden Service have been condemned by many Newcastle residents. The Labour-run City Council are proposing replacing the service with Telecare, but many elderly people value the human touch that a resident warden can provide & would be reluctant to phone for help except in an emergency. Newcastle Liberal Democrats are asking the Council to reconsider this plan as the wardens are very important to the quality of life of sheltered housing residents.
