About Me

Wendy Taylor has been a Councillor for Dene Ward since 1988. She works as a Hospital Consultant at Freeman Hospital treating patients with breast & gynacological cancer. Wendy has lived in High Heaton for over 30 years & is married with two children. Between 2004 & 20011, Wendy was the Newcastle City Council executive Member for Environment, Sustainability & Transport. She introduced the current recycling scheme with free collections of garden waste, & the blue bins for bottles, cans, plastic bottles, cardboard, paper, textiles & batteries & saw recycling increase from 8% to 46%. She also led the introduction of 20mph speed limits on every residential street in Newcastle. As a Dene Ward Councillor, Wendy worked with ward colleagues to put in residents’ parking schemes across the ward, to ensure increased funding for road & pavement repairs & to keep all residents informed with regular FOCUS newsletters.
