Liberal Democrat Councillor for Dene Ward Learn more

I have joined the Dry January campaign to raise money for Alcohol Concern. Like many people, I enjoy having a drink socially or with a meal, but I’m as a doctor, I’m very concerned about the damage being caused by alcohol abuse & want to raise awareness of the issue.
Cheap alcohol is too readily available in supermarkets & this contributes to excess drinking. The effects are serious health problems, alcohol related crime & violence, domestic violence & family breakdown, antisocial behaviour & drink driving. I recently chaired Newcastle City Council’s Alcohol Working Group looking at ways of reducing these harmful effects.
To help raise awareness & to raise money for the charity Alcohol Concern, I have made a commitment not to drink any alcohol during January. I’d be grateful for any sponsorship you can manage.
